This years Coastal Cleanup Day was Saturday, September 20th from 9AM-12PM. The California Coastal Commission, local non profit groups like the Environmental Center of San Luis Obispo, and volunteers came together at various locations on California’s coast to remove trash and marine debris from the coastline. Four Martin Resorts locations participated in this year’s statewide event at the Avila Beach and Pismo Beach locations including Avila Lighthouse Suites, Pismo Lighthouse Suites, BEST WESTERN PLUS Shelter Cove in Pismo Beach, and BEST WESTERN PLUS Shore Cliff in Pismo Beach.
After the clean up, each location reports back to the California Coastal Commission who complies the data to influence policy. Along with the data comes some interesting facts – this years Coastal Clean Up facts include:
- 1,129 total volunteers
- 3685.2 pounds of trash and recyclables collected
- 56.25 miles of coastline and waterways cleaned
Along with these facts, here are some unusual items the volunteers found in some of our beaches:
- Toy fake teeth
- Enclosed cash register drawer
- Nosehair clippers
- Boat seat
- Wallet with library card
Come join Martin Resorts next year. We can’t wait to see even more volunteers and look forward to keeping our beaches clean!

The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County is working to transform a 900-acre private ranch above Pismo Beach into a public preserve for outdoor recreation and community enjoyment.
Opening to the public in fall 2015, the Pismo Preserve offers truly exceptional and diverse recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors will enjoy over 10 miles of existing ranch roads and trails offering ready-to-use routes ideal for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The Land Conservancy is currently working with the Wallace Group to design, engineer, and permit two staging areas/parking lots, restroom facilities, picnic areas, and ADA-compliant site features.
Not only does the Pismo Preserve offer ample recreational activities but it allows The Land Conservancy to protect and enhance natural resources through conservation and restoration efforts which ensures refuge for sensitive species far into the future. Some sensitive species identified on the preserve are the federally threatened South-Central California Coast Steelhead and the federally endangered California red-legged frog.
Martin Resorts is a proud donator for the Pismo Preserve and looks forward to enjoying the public perserve for outdoor recreation. To make a donation or to learn more about the Pismo Preserve, visit LCSLO.org/pismopreserve.

The Paso Robles Inn Steakhouse, known for its expansive menu of hearty steakhouse fare, has added new items to its lunch and dinner menus. In addition to signature items we are known for, the Steakhouse is increasing its locally grown and sourced cuisine with new, innovative dishes.
In re-designing the menu, Battle of the Bay Winner and Executive Chef Paul Arangorin recognized the popularity and demand of some of the Steakhouse’s signature dishes, which remain on the menus, but added new fresh salads, sandwiches, pastas and more. Customers will still be able to order their favorite steak (now served with your choice of potato, fresh vegetable and sauce), the ever-popular Prime Rib, or the signature Grilled Artichoke which was recently featured in Westways Magazine.
The new menu items feature naturally raised beef from California, Morro Bay oysters, locally caught halibut, as well as a myriad of locally grown and sustainable produce like fresh spring peas and tendrils, asparagus, kale, artichokes and wild mushrooms. The Chef’s Garden at the Inn will provide ingredients, including chilies now growing that will be pickled, fresh basil, and heirloom tomatoes. And all of the pastas will be handcrafted.
Arangorin’s inspiration for this menu is the bounty of fresh, available ingredients the Central Coast provides. “I wanted to serve wonderful local produce and naturally raised meats, and give them the opportunity to shine by balancing the flavors and textures of each ingredient.”
New menu items include:
- Steak Bites with garlic sourdough bread, chipotle aioli, and tomato and shallot salad
- Heirloom Tomato Salad with locally grown tomatoes, burrata cheese, and California olive oil
- Pork Belly Bao with hoisin, cucumber, cilantro, garden chilies, scallions, rock sugar, and peanuts
- Duck Confit with white bean cassoulette, sausage, pancetta, baby tomatoes, sherry vinegar, and fresh parsley
- Crispy Pork Belly with poached egg, wild mushrooms, crème fraîche, and mash potatoes
- Wild Mushroom Tagliatelle with pea vines, truffle butter, and parmigiano-Reggiano

Yesterday, Paso Robles Inn enjoyed the first evening of our Summer Wine and Tapas series. We were joined by DAOU Vineyards to create a memorable night. Guests enjoyed delicious food created by Executive Chef Paul to compliment DAOU Vineyards’ four featured wines. One of the many delicious tapas included whipped gorgonzola, honey, granny smith apples, and almonds, all on top of toast. Chef Paul cooked in the middle of the patio so all the guests could watch him work his magic!
Guests sipped on wine while lounging in the warm weather to the sound of live acoustic music. The Paso Robles Inn and Steakhouse food and beverage staff enthusiastically served freshly cooked tapas to guests who were sitting and socializing. Laughter filled the air while the guests enjoyed some great company as they relaxed surrounded by the beautiful gardens of the Paso Robles Inn.
The evening reached its climax when a young couple asked DAOU Vineyard winemaker, Daniel Daou, to sign their massive wine bottle. The couple, just recently engaged, plans to open it in honor of their future 10th wedding anniversary.
As part of our 3rd Annual Summer Wine and Tapas series on the patio at the Paso Robles Inn Steakhouse we are excited to announce the addition of Winemaker Dinners!
The new Winemaker Dinner series is an intimate affair showcasing local wines along with Chef Paul Arangorin’s signature cuisine. Collaborating with the winemakers, Chef Paul will design a menu that highlights the wine selections. The featured winemaker will be in attendance to provide tasting notes during the meal.
Enjoy an educational experience paired with great ambiance and delicious food and wine, select Thursdays, June-August beginning at 6PM.
Tickets are $75 per person. Tickets may be purchased in advance for all events by calling the Paso Robles Inn at 238-2660 and will also be sold at the door.
Guests must be 21 years of age to attend.
Our first Winemaker Dinner of the series kicks off with J.Lohr Vineyards and Wines on June 12th.
